Sacramental Recognition Celebration

One of the things for which we as Catholics are grateful is the sacraments of our faith.  Sacraments are signs of God’s grace.  They are ways in which God touches our lives and makes us more like Christ.  We were honoured to have worked in conjunction with personnel from Ascension Parish as well as other parishes in the Diocese of Calgary where our students have been attending with their families.

On the afternoon of June 22nd, we gathered as a school community to recognize and honour the students at St. Clare who received Sacraments in Baptism, Holy Communion, Reconciliation, and Confirmation at different points throughout the school year. The numbers of students from St. Clare receiving Sacraments this year was quite impressive as noted below.

Baptism – 10 Students

                                                   Holy Communion – 82 Students

Reconciliation – 46 Students

                                                           Confirmation - 20 Students

In celebration of these honours, students received commemorative Sacramental tokens, certificates and a special treat. We would like to congratulate all students involved in receiving their respective Sacraments at Ascension Parish and other parishes in the Diocese of Calgary.

Conflict Management & Resolution

The topic of Conflict Management & Resolution was at the core of the Character Education presentation for Division II students on June 14, 2016.
Conflict Management & Resolution is a way for two or more parties to find a peaceful solution to a disagreement among them. The disagreement may be caused by a variety of reasons. When a disagreement happens between people, often the best course of action is compromise to resolve the disagreement. Regardless of the course of action the steps and strategies used vary depending upon the person/people involved as noted in the following image:

We examined the meaning of this topic especially as it applies to us individually in our daily lives and in the St. Clare School Community. The following images features Division II student insight and examples which highlight effective Conflict Resolution strategies.

Relating to this topic, we explored the components of the “Be Cool” Conflict Management Series as well as the virtues of “Peacefulness” and “Assertiveness” in our Division II small group sessions. These lessons were supplemented by video clips from Values.com and reflections from “Apple Seeds” (Inspirational, Motivational, Quotes, Blessings, Prayers) as well as content from the Virtues Project.

Walk Humbly With God

The faith theme for the Calgary Catholic School District is based on Micah 6:8. The bible passage is noted below:

This year’s focus is based on the “walk humbly” element or component. "Walk Humbly with God" and the related virtue of Humility was the topic of the Division II Character Education presentation on June 6, 2016.  We examined the meaning of this virtue especially as it applies to us individually in our daily lives and in the St. Clare School Community.

Humility is a virtue and value which involves the act of being modest.  It was once said that true humility is not thinking less of yourself . . . it is thinking of yourself less. Since walking is a metaphor for our life journey, we explored how we can “walk humbly” with God in our daily lives? The following images features student insight and examples from 6P, 6L & 6Z which highlight of what “walk humbly” looks like at St. Clare.

Division II small group classroom lessons this week will be supplemented by video clips and content from the Virtues Project.

Extraordinary Year of Mercy

Mercy was the topic of the Division II Character Education presentation on May 27, 2016.  We examined the meaning of this virtue especially as it applies to our daily lives and explored the topic of the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy.
Our Holy Father, Pope Francis has called us to enter into an Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy. This Holy Year began on December 8, 2015 and will conclude on November 20, 2016. As part of the Church’s tradition when opening a Jubilee Year, a Holy Door was opened in Rome on December 8th. A Holy Door was also opened at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Calgary. The opening of Holy Doors is a sign that the door of God’s mercy has been opened to all people and it reminds us that Jesus Christ is the door or the gate that leads to God’s mercy.

We are all invited to remember and give thanks for God’s abundant mercy; the Gospel reminds us that God always looks for us when we are lost and comes to meet us with compassion, forgiveness and love.  In addition to receiving God’s mercy, we are also invited to put God’s mercy into action . . . as God calls us to be merciful toward others just as God is merciful toward us. Let us remember to be compassionate, forgiving and loving.

In conjunction with this Character Education Presentation, we explored what Mercy means for us in our daily lives . . . and what MERCY looks like at St. Clare School . . .

Forthcoming Division II small group classroom lessons this week will be supplemented by video clips and content from the Virtues Project.
