Mercy was the topic of the Division II Character Education
presentation on May 27, 2016. We
examined the meaning of this virtue especially as it applies to our daily lives and explored the topic of the Extraordinary
Jubilee of Mercy.
Our Holy
Father, Pope Francis has called us to enter into an Extraordinary Jubilee of
Mercy. This Holy Year began on December 8, 2015 and will conclude on November
20, 2016. As part of
the Church’s tradition when opening a Jubilee Year, a Holy Door was opened in Rome
on December 8th. A Holy Door was also opened at St. Mary’s Cathedral in
Calgary. The opening
of Holy Doors is a sign that the door of God’s mercy has been opened to all
people and it reminds us that Jesus Christ is the door or the gate that leads
to God’s mercy.
We are all
invited to remember and give thanks for God’s abundant mercy; the Gospel
reminds us that God always looks for us when we are lost and comes to meet us
with compassion, forgiveness and love. In
addition to receiving God’s mercy, we are also invited to put God’s mercy into
action . . . as God calls us to be merciful toward others just as God is
merciful toward us. Let us remember to be compassionate, forgiving and loving.
In
conjunction with this Character Education Presentation, we explored what Mercy
means for us in our daily lives . . . and what MERCY looks like at St. Clare
School . . .
Forthcoming Division
II small group classroom lessons this week will be supplemented by video clips and content from the Virtues Project.
