Religion 4V: Stations of the Cross Project

One of the most special and sacred events of the annual liturgical calendar for Catholics occurs during Lent when we prepare for the death and resurrection of our saviour Jesus Christ.  Many of the following special celebrations are associated with the season which help guide us on our Lenten journey: Ash Wednesday, Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Sunday.

Observed by Catholics in the midst of the Easter weekend is a very solemn religious celebration called “The Stations of the Cross”.  During such a celebration, we journey with Jesus from the moment he was condemned to die until he rose from the dead on Easter Sunday.  Various visual depictions symbolic of the stations often accompany readings and prayers which focus the attention of the congregation to the sacrifice made by Jesus for mankind on Good Friday and His triumph over death on Easter.

During Holy Week, the final week of Lent prior to Easter, the students of 4V examined each of these  stations as we journeyed alongside  Jesus during this very sacred time. Individually, or in pairs, the students had the option of creating a poster visual or Google Slide complete with a variety of imagery and illustrations which depict what their specific station represented.

The following are examples of some of the student work that was created.
